Chris Waddle urges Tottenham chairman Levy to sign a England attacker

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with several top Premier League players this summer, but one enduring target, Eberechi Eze, remains elusive. Former Spurs star Chris Waddle has now urged the club to finalize the deal for the Crystal Palace midfielder.

Eze Fits Tottenham’s Profile

Eberechi Eze has been a prominent name in Spurs’ transfer rumors throughout the summer. Despite ongoing links, he remains a Crystal Palace player. Waddle, speaking to The Sunday Mirror on July 28, emphasized Eze’s potential impact at Tottenham. “He’s a great talent. I think he’d mainly be used in a wide role. He’s got pace, grace, and balance. The Spurs fans would love to watch him. He’s definitely a Tottenham player. He would be a great addition,” Waddle said.

Lack of Progress on the Deal

Despite the high interest, progress on acquiring Eze has been minimal. According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, no formal offer has been made to Crystal Palace. Romano also mentioned that Tottenham have been in contact with Eze’s agent since February this year. However, Spurs are just one of many Premier League clubs monitoring the talented midfielder.

The Financial Challenge

Securing Eze’s transfer is not straightforward. Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport reported that Crystal Palace is determined to keep their star player, and his release clause adds complexity to any potential deal. It is believed that Eze could leave Palace for £60 million due to a gentleman’s agreement, but the Eagles insist on the fee being paid upfront, not in installments.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fans and pundits alike are keen on Eze joining Tottenham. However, the prolonged nature of the transfer saga has dampened some hopes. A Spurs Web opinion piece expressed doubt about the deal’s likelihood if it drags on much longer. “I really like Eze and I do hope we manage to sign him. The longer this goes on, however, the less likely I think it is to happen,” the piece noted. The financial demand is seen as a significant hurdle, especially given the £60 million upfront payment required by Palace.
